Connect Camera to Wi-Fi Network

Requirements

  • Active Internet connection with 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network
  • Wi-Fi network name & password
    • Note: The Wi-Fi username and password can't use special symbols (!@#$% etc).
  • IoT Living installed on the mobile phone
  • Mobile phone is directly connected to the device (See: Pairing the device to app)

How to

  1. Open IoT living app & view the "My Devices" page

  2. Select the cog icon on the active camera you wish to connect to your network

  3. Select "Network Information" from the options for the Wi-Fi Settings

  4. Select the Wi-Fi name you want to join from the list
    1. If the Wi-Fi name doesn't appear it's possible that the router is only broadcasting a 5Ghz Wi-Fi network
      1. Most modems will have the option to do both 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz but is set to only broadcast the 5Ghz
      2. Please ask the customer to contact their Internet provider/router manufacturer to enable the 2.4Ghz and email the set up guide attached

  5. Leave "Encryption" and "Signal" as default and enter the Wi-Fi password

    1. If the app gets stuck on this screen for more than 2~3 minutes please restart the app and try again
      1. Ensure the customer isn't using any special characters in WiFi password
      2. Make sure user is within a few metres of the router for the setup

  6. Complete the device configuration and it will return to the "My Devices" page

Features

Activating Motion Detection Alerts & Recording to SD

Requirements

  • Device connected to power & 2.4Ghz Wi-FI
  • Mobile phone with IoT Living App installed
  • An SD card (or TF Card) inserted into the device

Our IoT Living devices enable customers to get an alert when someone passes their device, and also record following that motion detection to an inserted SD card. Follow these steps to activate one or both of these features.

  1. Open IoT Living app & view the "My Devices" page.

  2. Select the cog icon on the active camera you want to set up motion detection alerts or recording on.

  3. There are two settings that can be adjusted to setup and adjust the motion detection alerts and recording functions in our IoT living devices (highlighted in red). Start by selecting 'Motion Detection Setting' to turn on the feature.
  4. In this section there are a few options to customise, and can be updated in the app any time.
    1. Enabling the first 'Motion Alert' option will turn on the function, and then the sensitivity of when it activates can be adjusted. High-Max is recommended for increasing chance of detection.

    2. The 'Motion Zone' can be changed by touching and dragging the small blue dots in each corner, or the lower prompts will automatically set the area. Select 'Total area' for full coverage.

    3.  'Remote Notification' is how you can toggle Motion Detection Alerts to the mobile. Update the name of the alert below and ensure notifications for the IoT App are enabled in mobile phone settings (Not just IoT).

    4. Click the ✓ icon in the top right corner of the app to confirm your settings.

    5. 'Motion Detection Alerts' can also be toggled on and off from the main device menu, beside the cog.
  5. After the Motion Detection Settings are set, return to the menu with the  button and if not already done, insert a blank micro SD (TF) Card into the device within device limit (most are max 64GB), then select 'Record Setting'.

  6. This section enables your device to record video after it detects motion, saving the footage directly to the SD card.
    1. There are three modes for how you can capture video after motion has been detected.

      Off: Motion detection recorded video
Alert: Records for 15 seconds after motion.
Full Time: Set a custom time duration from 15 seconds to 900 seconds (15sec - 15mins) after motion.

    2. Below this setting you can see the storage information of your SD Card. Once full or close to full, remove the SD card, insert it into a PC/Laptop device and copy any data you would like to keep before wiping and reinserting into the device.

    3. Click the ✓ icon in the top right corner of the app to confirm your settings.

Note: The device remembers saved settings, and can record motion detection video to SD card even while not connected to the local Wi-Fi network. This is not a feature, but a convenient work-around for offline recording.

  7. The motion detection, alerts and video recording to SD setup is now complete! These settings can be customised at any times. Return to the menu with the  button and explore other settings or press again for the device menu list.

Activating Night-Vision

Requirements

  • Connected to device (by direct link or online)
  • Mobile phone with IoT Living App installed

Some IoT Living devices support infrared night vision, a method of recording video even in dark conditions.

  1. Open IoT Living app & view the "My Devices" page.

  2. Select the cog icon on the active camera you want to enable infrared night vision on.

  3. Scroll down to 'Infrared Light Setting' under the parameters setting.
(If this does not appear here, the device does not support infrared night vision.)
  4. This function is enabled automatically, but can be toggled for auto, on or off.

  5. Infrared night vision motion detection and recording is now enabled. This settings can be customised at any time. Return to the menu with the  button and explore other settings or press again for the device menu list.

Common Issues

  • I suddenly can't connect to the device
  • The device is not producing a Wi-Fi signal for me to connect to

These are the primary reasons why customers will contact us with support for an IoT Living product. Often it is the case that the device has lost connection to the network and needs a factory reset and to be setup again as a new device.

Each IoT Living device has a 'Reset' button or pinhole that can be pressed for 10-12~ seconds which will cause the device to wipe and reset itself as if it was a new product. Indicators of a reset can include red and blue flashing LED lights from within the device or an audible chime. Once the device is reset, communicate with the customer following the Quick Setup Guide above to reconnect the device.

  • I can't find my Wi-Fi network in the connections list in IoT Living
  • I can't see my device while away from Wi-Fi, only when directly connected.

These two issues may occur when the customer does not have a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi connection already setup and they would like to use the device. You can connect to the device directly to view it when within range, but without setting up a connection between the device and the local wi-fi network, the customer would be unable to connect remotely and from another location. To resolve either of these issues, use the following prompts:

Our Support

The customer is capable of activating the 2.4Ghz connection on their wi-fi device as long as it's compatible. The 2.4Ghz format is supported by most modern modem-routers. Forward the customer the canned response /c 2.4Ghz which provides a brief explainer and instructions to the customer to assist them with this aspect of setup which is detailed further below.

Further Support

If the above is overly confusing or complicated to the customer, advise them that they are recommended to contact their Internet provider / modem-router manufacturer for trained IT support on how to enable the 2.4Ghz.

"We are not trained in providing IT or networking support, and while we can send you a general guide with easy steps on how to set up 2.4Ghz on your modem or router, your best point of contact is your internet service provider!"

Canned Responses

  • /c 2.4Ghz

Our products requires a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi connection to be operated. If you're unsure about your internet connection type or if our products will work for you, here is how you can check and some guidance on how to enabled it.
Most modern routers utilise two wi-fi network 'bands', these are known and displayed as 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Newer routers may default to a singular 5Ghz connection, but most are still dual-band (having both wi-fi types) and the 2.4Ghz connection can be enabled manually. Every router has a configuration page where you can view, change and alter your wireless network settings to suit your needs.

    How to enable 2.4Ghz wi-fi:

    1. Get your IP Address (You can google "what is my IP")
    2. Enter your IP Address into the top of your browser
    3. Login with your username and password
The default information is usually USERNAME: admin and PASSWORD: blank or admin
    4. Click the Advanced Settings Tab
    5. Click Network Settings
    6. Enable 2.4Ghz band

This process can vary slightly depending on what router you have.

If you'd like a guide specific to your device, you can enter the router model into Google along with the "how to setup 2.4Ghz" to find an extensive list of How-To guides or contact the Internet Service Provider you purchased from for further assistance.
